Roofing is something
which is designed to be flat, cone-shaped, heaped or pitched. In any
construction industry, if you read history, you will notice the evolution
of roofing from traditional to modern. The traditional roofing iron sheets have
a vast difference compared to modern technology tiles. Purlins and
rafters are the basic part and parcel of the structural rooftops. Purlins
are considered as the load transmitting members of the steel roof. They
tend to transmit the live road, the dead loads and even the wind load on the
top of the roof. Most often these are considered as the part of the large
steel structure with a low level of permeability.
The c purlins are useful horizontal structures which
are majorly used for supporting the loads. It has a plane surface of the
purling on one of the side which is made up with preferred materials for the
cladding and due to the easy installation process, it is highly used in the
rooftop development or construction process. It is even offered to breams for
supporting the sloping rood system between the adjacent trusses.
In the construction
process, purlin in truss commences the ring beam. The wall plate is
majorly anchored to the beam with the help of the bolts. Once the wall plates
are fixed, the roof structure is made stronger. Once the design is completed
the purlin is added across the rafter. The decking boards are followed by
fixing onto that pulled purlin. The rafters are simply spaced which at least
two by three feel of purlins. The boards are usually thick and overall eight
feet long.
Once the entire rooftop
construction is made and covered with the boards and steel purlins the outlook is simply magnificent.
The area is majorly covered with the explosive eaves which have a long
tongue and groove decking altogether. The deck is covered with bitumen. It is
generally overlapped and a blow torch is to be used for the sealing of the joints
so that the future safety and security of the top is maintained. It is
even done by and along with the chimney walls while passing the roof. The
shingles are laid over the top of the bitumen. It is around two inches.
This is how a rooftop
is placed. You know it or not, the purlin in roof truss along with rafter is simply like two
reinforcement of the roof. The parallel ridges or the lines are placed
perpendicularly onto the ridges of the roof truss. It is important to place the
roof truss in a perfect way covering the purlins and rafters. Did you know,
that the use of timber for decking, bitumen as an overlay is also used by many
construction people? It is said that the timber can tongue and groove the
chipboards at a best possible way. Even the timber roofing do have
various aesthetic features which range from the concealed gutters to no fascia
boards at the eaves. The concealed gutters are fixed before any eaves and
have pipes for taking active care of the building fabric in the process of
roofing.
Conclusion: Believe it
or not, in construction of a rooftop, purlin beam is very important for
holding the entire structure. Being placed horizontally purlin does support the
loads of the deck and sheathing which is supported by the principal rafter and
building walls and steel beams. It is to conclude that, using a perfect purlin
and rafter for a roofing construction is required. The different designs
have a different requirement which much is known by the user or the designer
while planning out the drawing.
